Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival in China would not be complete without the traditional mooncake pastries. And just less than 2 weeks left before the big event, Rovio has launched another design / packaging for the Angry Birds mooncake. In partnership with Taobao’s Tmall online store, people outside China can now enjoy this pastry that comes with a custom-made tin packaging and greeting card.
Just like the traditional one, the Angry Birds mooncake is made of egg yolk with lotus paste in the center. It is said that more than 4,430 sets of cakes have already made its way to online shelves, which costs US$15 ( 98 RMB) per box.
Maxim, a Hong Kong-based restaurant chain, was the first one to release Angry Birds mooncakes last August 15th. Aside from the traditional flavor, they also offered other flavors such as chocolate, mango, and pomelo. Their packaging is much simpler compared to Taobao, who used a reusable red tote bag. It is sold for $4.90 ($38 HKD) per bag.
Aside from cakes, Rovio and Taobao Tmall also offers Angry Birds iPhone 4 protective case and t-shirts. Both merchandises are still under the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration.
