Marvel’s The Avengers had the biggest opening weekend in box-office history–surpassing even last summer’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”–with $200.3 million in ticket sales across the U.S. and Canada, according to Hollywood.com Box-Office.

The blockbuster has collected $641.8 million since it opened in international markets on April 25, and well exceeded the forecasted $150 to $170 million for it’s domestic debut.
The Avengers is the first Marvel film released by Disney since they purchased Marvel Entertainment in 2009.

Dave Hollis, executive vice president for distribution, Walt Disney Studios says the numbers are evidence of Marvel’s staying power and Disney’s ability to capitalize on the brand.

And capitalize they have, with a slew of licensing deals in conjunction with the film’s release including apparel, toys, mobile games, furniture and more.
