Drops concrete tiles for entic design

Spanish collective mut design studio + atelier presented 'drops', a concrete tile concept for valencia-based manufacturer entic designs  at salone satellite 2012.

The geometric motif is a depiction of a japanese pond as raindrops fall on the water's surface. four styles -- one only with the circular droplet pattern, and the others with gold fish, lotus plants and water lilies -- fit together to create a variety of combinations depending on the direction and placement of the individual pieces.

Made as an encaustic tile, all the blocks of color are placed separately and have depth, ensuring that the design does not wear with time as is the case with the painted variety. the entire structure of the product is 2 cm (0.8 inches) thick. the first layer is made of portland cement, marble sand and pigments which are poured into a mold to form the top decorative element. the second has more portland cement and sand, absorbing the excess liquid from the top layer. another covering of cement and sand porosity are applied to the bottom for easy adhesion.

Due to the composition, no baking is necessary; the tiles harden without heat.
