'Bay south' is one of three cultivated waterfront landscapes (bay east and bay central) located in Singapore's New Downtown, Marina Bay, by uk-based firm grant associates. the 54-hectare space is the largest section of the 101-hectare 'gardens by the bay' master plan which is set to open at the end of this month. the arcadia will showcase signature features such as cooled conservatories, flower dome and cloud forest; the supertrees in the golden garden, silver garden and supertree grove; the heritage gardens; the world of plants; and, the dragonfly and kingfisher lakes.

Changing floral displays, choreographed light and sound shows and a series of interpretive media and narratives will bring to life the story of plants,
with dining and retail experiences.

'We are pulling our efforts together to realize the aspiration of delivering a garden that families, friends and communities in singapore can enjoy and cherish.
As the plants establish and mature over time, we hope that visitors will continue to give their support and grow with the gardens,”
- dr. kiat w. tan, ceo, gardens by the bay.

wilkinson eyre's conservatory complex is a horticultural attraction comprising of two biomes: the 1.2-hectare flower dome, which features a cool-dry climate of mediterranean and semi-arid subtropical regions like south africa and parts of europe similar to spain and italy; and the 0.8-hectare cloud forest, which replicates a cool-moist weather condition found in tropical montane regions between 1,000 to 3,500 meters above sea level, such as mt. kinabalu in sabah,
malaysia, and high elevation areas in south america. close to 226,000 plants from every continent except antartica are featured in the gardens.

Designed as tree-like structures between 25 and 50 meters in height, the 18 supertrees are developed as vertical gardens, displaying tropical flowering climbers, epiphytes and ferns. at night, the canopies are lit up using projected media. the grove will help ameliorate discomfort of the climate by providing shade and shelter.

They are also embedded with sustainable energy and water technologies that are used to cool the conservatory. a 128-meter-long walkway will connect the two 42-meter structure in the plantation to give visitors different views of the complex. while the 50-meter edifice will have a treetop bistro offering panoramic perspective of the marina bay area.
